Step into a world of magic and fantasy! Genesius Theatre is excited to be kicking off our 2027 season of Finding Home by presenting one of the most influential and memorable fantasy stories in history J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Adapted by Patricia Gray and directed by Genesius Artistic Director, James Haggerty, this production promises to be filled with dwarves, elves, goblins, trolls, a wizard, a dragon, and a lot of stage magic and puppetry.
Bilbo Baggins prefers comfort over courage. He likes his predictable life in the Shire, complete with quiet afternoons and a well-stocked pantry. But everything changes when the wizard Gandalf arrives at his door, accompanied by Thorin Oakenshield and a boisterous company of dwarves.
Before he knows it, Bilbo is recruited as the official “burglar” for a dangerous mission: to travel across Middle-earth and help the dwarves reclaim their ancient kingdom under the Lonely Mountain from the treacherous dragon, Smaug.
As the journey unfolds, the reluctant Bilbo is forced to face terrifying dangers, from hungry trolls and malicious goblins to the eerie depths of a subterranean lake, where a fateful game of riddles with the creature Gollum alters the course of history. Ultimately, Bilbo must find his inner strength to save his friends and help decide the fate of the Lonely Mountain.
Brimming with magic, danger, and heart, this spectacular stage adaptation proves that true heroes come in the most unexpected sizes.
